Due to a combination of a calendar-process shift, a technological glitch, and some on-the-ground life circumstances, I’m going to cancel tomorrow morning’s workshop. I’m still very much figuring out how to manage both the conceptual and logistical parts of doing a thing in addition to teaching, and this was not one of the more successful days of doing that.
If you’re wanting to practice this week and bring in elements of the Spring Equinox, here are some questions you might invite in:
What do you feel pulled toward or want to channel energy toward right now?
What do you feel has been simmering below the surface this winter and is ready to come out into the light?
What areas of your life could use some additional balance, hope, or focus?
For an asana practice, Sun Salutations are always great around solstices and equinoxes as we honor and celebrate the gifts and possibilities of the sun. I’ve been on a journey related to Sun Salutations (historically not my favorite - so much up and down!), and am currently partial to the Surya Namaskar B sequence.
At an equinox, I also like to think about the benefits of opposing forces at the moment that we have equal dark and light in our days. A version of one of my favorite closing meditations to physically activate that idea is below; use or adapt as feels supportive for you in this season of growth!
As you lie in savasana or rest in a meditative seat, start by noticing the parts of your body that are connected to your earth (the back of your body if you are lying down, the lower half of your body if you’re seated). Feel the support of the earth below you. You might imagine allowing the earth to absorb any residual tension, any thoughts, anything you’re ready to let go of. Next bring your attention to the parts of your body that are free from the earth, the front of your body, or the top half if you are seated. You might notice the movement of the air, the the temperature. Notice what it feels like to have space surrounding you. You might imagine that space expanding to make room for any areas of your life you’d like to give additional love and attention this season.
As you feel the support, feel the freedom, you might allow an intention to surface for the rest of your day or for this season - what energy of your practice do you wish to take with you into the world, into this season of growth? How can your practice support you in bringing that intention to life off the mat?
